One of the things we love the most about the Breville Fresh and Furious countertop blender is its small and compact size, measuring at 17.8 x 21.6 x 43.2 cm. This makes it a perfect fit, as it doesn't take up much space, which is a significant advantage in my busy kitchen.

Another notable feature of this blender is its use of high-quality tritan plastic that is free from BPA, BPS, and all other bisphenols. Despite this high-quality construction, the blender remains lightweight, making it easy to handle, especially for those with arthritis or weak wrists.

The LCD display is also a handy feature, as it counts down the time needed for blending, helping me keep track of my busy schedule. I also appreciate the tight fit of the lid onto the top of the pitcher, which ensures no spills or leaks, especially when blending liquids. The improved pull ring on the lid makes it easy for me to open, even when the jar is filled with ingredients.

The pitcher doesn't need to click onto the motor base to function. This means I can place it in any position, avoiding the inconvenience of trying to click it in place. The tall jar base also adds to the blender's stability, preventing accidental knock-overs, which is especially helpful in a bustling kitchen with kids around.

Cleaning this blender is quite convenient as well. It features an auto-cleaning function where you simply add 2 cups of warm soapy water, press the button, and let the machine do the work for you. While you may still need to do some additional cleaning afterwards, we found it to be highly efficient in removing most of the residue from the jar walls and blades.

Since acquiring this blender over a year ago, we have not experienced any problems. It's reassuring to know that it's still covered by the 2-year warranty. Additionally, Breville offers the convenience of purchasing replacement parts, such as lids and jars, directly from their website, should the need arise to replace any components. This adds an extra layer of convenience and peace of mind to our blender ownership experience.

Lastly, it's noteworthy to mention that this blender is designed to be compatible with the Vac Q vacuum pump (sold separately). This optional accessory allows you to draw out the air from the jug, resulting in even smoother textures, brighter colours, and richer flavours in your green smoothies, pestos, dips, and soups. For those seeking an elevated culinary experience, this add-on can take the performance of this blender to the next level.

Limitations to Consider

Although we are overall satisfied with our blender, there are a few drawbacks worth mentioning. One limitation is that it is not suitable for blending hot ingredients or liquids. The manual explicitly advises against blending hot liquids and recommends allowing ingredients to cool to room temperature before blending. This could be inconvenient for those who intend to use the blender for making soups. If soup making is a priority for you, there may be other blenders that are better suited for your needs.

Furthermore, despite Breville's claim of this blender being quiet, we have found that it can still generate considerable noise, particularly at high speeds. Although it's far from unbearable, we were expecting a quieter operation based on the advertised claims.

Also, although we do appreciate the auto-cleaning function, it's important to highlight that since the blade is not removable, it can be challenging to clean if something gets stuck underneath it. Additionally, food tends to get trapped in the rubber part of the lid, requiring separate cleaning and reassembly, which can be time-consuming.

Putting to the Test: Our Findings and Results

The Breville Fresh and Furious blender, priced in the mid-range, is a sturdy and adaptable machine equipped with various speed options and preset programs. After testing this blender alongside other models, we can confidently state that it is one of the best blenders for household use in Australia. Below, you'll find details of the tests we conducted, accompanied by relevant pictures.

Green smoothie

As part of our testing process, we blended a mixture of spinach, apple, banana, chia seeds, yoghurt, and milk using the green smoothie preset program for 60 seconds. The blender effectively blended the ingredients to create a thick and creamy texture with even consistency. The spinach, apple, and banana were blended smoothly, resulting in a nutritious green smoothie.

We decided to test this blender using a combination of oats, milk, frozen blueberries, and grapes to see how it performed. Using the smoothie preset program, we let it blend for 60 seconds, and the test results were impressive. The blender effortlessly blended all the ingredients to a smooth texture without any lumps. The frozen blueberries and grapes were evenly incorporated, and the oats were smoothly blended, resulting in a delicious and satisfying smoothie. It's clear that the Breville Fresh and Furious Blender is one of the best blenders for smoothies, based on our test results.

Auto pulse

During our testing, we utilised the auto pulse function of the blender to crush a quantity of ice cubes, as depicted in the accompanying picture. The results were impressive, with the ice being perfectly crushed and no sizable chunks remaining, showcasing the blender's efficient ice crushing capability, making it a noteworthy feature for those who enjoy icy treats or frozen drinks.

It's important to keep in mind that the blender's instruction manual recommends adding no more than one cup of ice to the jar at once. Therefore, if you plan to crush a large quantity of ice, it's advisable to do so in smaller batches to prevent overwhelming the blender and ensure optimal performance.

Chop speed setting 

As seen in the picture, the Chop speed setting on this blender excelled in producing finely chopped carrots without any noticeable lumps. Unlike some blenders that struggle with leaving behind big chunks, this blender's exceptional performance was evident in the consistent texture achieved. Its powerful motor and sharp blades worked seamlessly to process the carrots into evenly sized pieces, without compromising on the quality of the end result. We found this feature to be particularly useful when dealing with tough ingredients that can be challenging to chop.

Blender Comparisons: Breville Fresh and Furious vs. Other Models

Breville the Fresh and Furious vs Breville the Q 

Breville the Fresh and Furious and Breville the Q are both powerful professional blenders from the same brand, but they have some key differences. Firstly, Breville the Fresh and Furious is smaller and more compact compared to Breville the Q, making it a better fit for kitchens with limited counter space. On the other hand, Breville the Q boasts a larger capacity of 2 litres, ideal for blending larger batches.

Breville the Q also has the ability to make hot soup, although it requires cooked ingredients to be cooled down to room temperature before blending, while Breville the Fresh and Furious does not have this function.

Both blenders share similar features, such as 5 speed settings plus a pulse feature, as well as an auto clean function for convenient cleaning. Additionally, both blenders come with tritan jug and stainless steel blade, ensuring durability and safety in food preparation.

The capacity and power of both blenders are not significantly different from each other, but the Fresh and Furious excels in terms of size and compactness, while the Vitamix E310 Explorian offers more speed settings and the ability to blend hot liquids. 

The Breville BBL620 also features an LED screen to check on blending time and comes with 3 preset blending programs for added convenience in specific blending tasks. On the other hand, Vitamix E310 compensates for the lack of preset programs with a whopping 10 speed settings, providing users with precise control over blending results. While the Fresh and Furious has an auto clean function, Vitamix E310 does not, but it is also easy to clean by adjusting the speed from low to high within 30 to 60 seconds.

One significant advantage of Vitamix blender is its ability to blend both hot and cold liquids, making it suitable for creating hot soups, sauces, and other warm recipes, which is a bonus for those who enjoy creamy hot soups. However, it's important to note that Breville the Fresh and Furious, like some other blenders in the comparison, is not designed for blending hot liquids.

Breville the Fresh and Furious vs Kleva Mealio Hot & Cold Blender

When it comes to size, power, and capacity, Breville the Fresh and Furious takes the lead, making it a top choice for kitchens with limited counter space. In contrast, the Kleva Mealio Hot & Cold Blender offers a wider range of speed settings and preset programs, providing more versatility in blending options.

The Kleva Mealio Hot & Cold Blender boasts a unique feature of being able to make hot soup from cold and raw ingredients, eliminating the need for pre-cooking. It also has a convenient timer function that allows users to set the blending time, making it ideal for multitasking. However, the Kleva Mealio Hot & Cold Blender may be less portable due to its heavier weight, attributed to its glass construction and built-in heating element. This could be a consideration for those who prioritise ease of portability, as well as for individuals with arthritis or other physical limitations. While Breville the Fresh and Furious is smaller in size, it makes up for it with its power and capacity. It also has an LED screen for blending time tracking and 3 preset programs for added convenience. This portable blender is also lighter in weight, making it easier to handle and store.

Final Thoughts

Finding a blender that meets my family's needs while being budget-friendly is important. After careful consideration of our specific needs and preferences, we found that the Breville BBL620 Fresh and Furious blender is the best choice among others in terms of its performance, features, and pricing.

Firstly, we don't make soup often, so while having a soup-making function is a nice-to-have, it's not essential for us. Living in a small apartment with limited kitchen space which is already filled with other appliances, a compact blender like the Breville Fresh and Furious is ideal. It also offers robust power and a good number of preset and speed programs for versatile blending options. The auto-clean function is also a convenient bonus for easy cleanup, which is particularly helpful for busy households.

One of the best things is that it's reasonably priced compared to other power blenders with similar features. As a mom on a budget, that's definitely a plus! Overall, it has been a reliable addition to our kitchen, delivering efficient performance without being overly fancy. It gets the job done effectively and saves us time and effort in blending tasks.

With its reasonable pricing and availability, it's a great option for families who want a reliable blender without breaking the bank. Its compact size, powerful blending capabilities, and affordable price make it a practical choice for everyday blending needs.
